UGC NET 2017: In order to put all speculation about the National Eligibility Test (NET) to rest, the University Grants Commission has decided that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct NET in the month of July.

In order to put all speculation about the National Eligibility Test (NET) to rest, the University Grants Commission has decided that the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) will conduct NET in the month of July. While the official statement about the same is yet to be released by the officials, an Indian Express report states that the Human Resource and Development Ministry had to intervene because of the tussle between UGC and CBSE. According to a source of the school board,

The National Eligibility Test is conducted twice every year to determine the eligibility of a candidate for the position of a college-level or a university-level lecturer and also to award Junior Research Fellowship (JRF). The Central Board of Secondary Education conducts NET on the behalf of the University Grants Commission. The HRD Ministry was approached by the school education board, CBSE in 2016, and this was when they had expressed their inability to conduct the National Eligibility Test (NET) as they are overburdened with other entrance examinations like the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) and the Joint Entrance Examinations (JEE)- Mains.

According to a senior UGC official, “The CBSE had approached the HRD Ministry expressing their inability. We recently had a meeting with HRD officials over the issue and it was decided that the board will conduct the exam in July without causing any delays.” He further said, “The arrangement is likely to continue till the proposed National Testing Service (NTS) to conduct all exams is set up by the government.”
